Collaborators William Emery (the writer) and Scott Squire (the photographer) have been scheming on creating a Central Valley book since they met in 2002.
The motivation is shared love of open space, good food, and folks bucking insidious trends. These authors will be driving, stopping, picking, talking, photographing, drinking, writing and eating the valley throughout 2006.
William Emery is one serious madman with the pen. Boy can he ever write. Good driver, too.
Scott Squire is an award winning fine art documentary photographer. A recent alum of UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism and an anthropologist at heart, Scott is always trying to nail down the relationship between beauty and truth.
Our project consists of a series of extended roadtrips around the valley, our notebooks and cameras in tow, talking to people, listening to their stories, and photographing their way of life and the products of their labor.
